How to setup Fusion 360 with SmartBench

This guide will show you how to export from Fusion 360 to SmartBench

This article will show you how to setup Fusion to work well with Smartbench:

1) Settings to take care are set correctly

A) Ensure you have on your toolbit setup "Clockwise spindle rotation" ticked

B) In the tool edit options under the Post Processor tab ensure the "Manual tool change" option is left unticked

2) Post Processor Setup

When you have designed your Fusion 360 file, you will need to export it for use on SmartBench,

This is done by use of a post processor - more information on what post processing is on this article

Step 1) Download the YetiTool SmartBench CNC Post Processor for use with Fusion from this link

Save this in a location you can easily find later

Step 2) In Fusion itself in the milling tab select the post processor options

This will open a settings window - click the file explorer option which will open another window

Press this button to import a downloaded post processor

Select the downloaded Smartbench post processor from earlier and press open

Step 3) Click on the imported post processor and click select

Step 4) The post processor will be imported, ensure your unit selection is in MM and click post in the bottom right (Don't choose inches otherwise SmartBench could bring up some out of bounds errors)

2) Machine Setup

Click on the manufacture settings in the drop down box

Click on the machine library settings

Head to Local and then click on create new

Select milling

Fill out the general information this is just for your reference to know which CNC machine this is for

In capabilities

Ensure only the milling option (highlighted in blue) is selected.

Untick “Automatic tool changer” and “Supports tool preload” otherwise your job files will not run

In the Post Processing options you can select the already downloaded YetiTool SmartBench CNC Post Processor

When done click on “OK” and then “Close” this will setup your Fusions files ready to use with SmartBench
