If you have an older SmartBench v1.2 or lower, click here.
|
To power your extraction automatically on SmartBench 1.3 you need both the extraction input and output cables plugged in - The input cable powers the output through a relay which switches on and off as required
|
The importance of using an effective extractor
The extractor is an essential part of the SmartBench system, as it removes swarf during the machining process. This is necessary to make sure the job runs smoothly and safely.
Build up of swarf on the workpiece can result in high levels of friction and heat at the cutting site. To prevent this, it is critical that swarf is removed from the cutting site during the job, using effective extraction.
|
If appropriate extraction is not used, the build-up of swarf can force SmartBench out of position while it is cutting. This can cause job failure.
|
Choosing which method to power your extractor
There are two different ways to power your extractor:
Powering via SmartBench is often preferable, if possible, because it allows SmartBench to auto-switch the extractor on and off. HOWEVER you can only power your extractor through SmartBench if the extractor consumes LESS than the stated power capacity below:
|
You can only use power your extractor through SmartBench v1.3 if:
you are using a 120v and your extractor consumes less than 1.5 kW power, or
you are using a 230v and your extractor consumes less than 2.9 kW power.
If you have a SmartBench v1.2 or lower, these values are different, please click here.
|
The power of your extractor will be stated on the electrical specification label found on the extractor itself. For example, the extractor shown here has a power rating of 1200 Watts.
This is less than the stated power limit, and can therefore be powered via SmartBench.
If you are powering your extractor via Smartbench...
Using the supplied cable, connect the mains supply to the extractor input on SmartBench Lower X Beam as shown in the image.
Use the extractor extension power lead provided...
and connect it to the output socket of SmartBench.
Now connect your extractor to this extension lead.
Switch on the mains power switch to “on” and now you can toggle extraction on and off from the highlighted icon. Click here to learn more about console operation of extractor.
If you are powering your extractor via a separate power outlet (if extractor exceeds SmartBench's capacity)
Use this option either:
Plug your extractor to an external power supply and whenever you are cutting any job on SmartBench your extraction has to be manually operated.
Connecting the extractor hose
The extractor hose connector is located at the underside of the Lower X Beam.
A: Extractor connector
Attach the extraction hose to the connector as shown below
