Our knowledgebase contains all the information you need to know about all things SmartBench
Troubleshooting checks:
Here are some initial checks you can perform to ensure everything is setup correctly
Ensure the power cable is securely fitted and is not loose, please see this article for reference
Ensure that power is reaching the console correctly, Please see this article to help guide you through this.
Check that your fuse(s) located in the lower beam are still continuous and do not require replacement, please see this article for more information
Do the motors lock into position? This can be tested by trying to turn the Smartbench on and attempting to move it around manually by hand. If the motors are locked this should be difficult to do. If the motors lock into position this indicates power is reaching the Smartbench. You may also be able to hear a locking noise when Smartbench is turned on.
Do the lights on the Z-Head dust shoe turn on at all during the booting sequence, these should be a dim green
Visually check all the connections points are free from damage, ensure the D-Sub connector which connects to the side of the Z-Head that all the pins are free from misalignment or damage
Check that the Red E-Stop button clicks into place securely and that it is visually free from any damage
Does the console backlight turn on - you may find that looking at it at a slight angle will get you a better view if the console is booting or not. This should be a light grey colour.
Visually check the internal wiring you’re looking for any damaged or loose wires, this can be tested by a gentle pull test on the Amphenol connector wires - to remove this connector from the lower beam please ensure the power is off and unplugged, and then remove the four bolts holding on the lower beam Amphenol connector the whole unit will then be able to be pulled free. Ensure that all of these wires are securely locked into the rear of the connector with a gentle pull test on each one.
We would also recommend with the power off and unplugged a visual check of the wiring behind the fuse plate holder to ensure that all the crimps are securely connected and visually free of damage
If you are cutting anything conductive ensure that your upper beam is prepared for this via this article
Does the console boot up outside of Smartbench, this can be accomplished by first removing the console from Smartbench and then the external casing for the console (this article about replacing the screen will be helpful to show you how to remove the case from the assembly)
Once the console case is removed please then identify the raspberry pi in the middle of the stack of PCB’s.
If your console serial number is between CS0003 and CS2053 you will need to power this with a Micro USB port with 5V and 2.5A
If your console serial number is CS2054 onwards you will need to power this with a USB C port with 5V and 3A
If your fault is not identified by these checks then please record all relevant information and submit a support ticket
